Since 2008, Stringers’ World has been providing tennis players from amateur to professional with tennis rackets from the leading adult tennis racket brands. We stock a wide selection of adult tennis rackets for players, from a variety of top brands, including strung and unstrung frames, allowing you to fully customise your racket to match your playing style.
Throughout our range of adult tennis rackets, there are specifications listed to allow you to make an informed decision when purchasing your new tennis racket. These specifications cover various factors like weight, balance, string pattern, racket length, and headsize.
Adult tennis rackets will often weigh between 250 grams and 330 grams. If you’re a beginner, you may opt for a lighter frame as these are easier to manoeuvre while providing less strain on the wrist as you improve your technical skills. While an intermediate or advanced player will lean towards a heavier frame for more control and precision.
The balance refers to the measurement from the butt cap to the point at which the racket will balance evenly.
– Head Light (300mm – 315mm): Easier to handle and manoeuvre, usually found on heavier rackets. – Even (320mm – 340mm): Chosen by intermediate and advanced players for a mix of power and control. – Head Heavy (+340mm): Adds power to shots with added weight coming through the ball, usually found on lighter rackets with oversized heads.
There are generally two types of string pattern, open (16×19, 16×18), which provides more spin and power, making it an excellent choice for beginners, and dense (18×20, 16×20), which offers more control and precision, often preferred by professionals and competitive players.
The standard length of an adult tennis racket is 27 inches, offering a balanced mix of control, manoeuvrability, and power. A longer racket (27.5–28 inches) provides additional reach, making it easier to cover the court and generate more power, especially on serves and groundstrokes. However, extended-length rackets may feel slightly heavier and less manoeuvrable compared to standard-length options.
Headsize refers to the tennis racket’s string bed. Measured in square inches, it plays a key role in your match, as it can lead to more power, control, and spin on your shots.
– Midsize (93-97 sq in): Offers maximum control but is the most challenging to play with, making it ideal for advanced players. – Midplus (98-100 sq in): A balanced mix of power and control, making it an excellent choice for intermediate players. – Oversize (102+ sq in): Perfect for beginners with a larger sweet spot, with more power and forgiveness.
Depending on how often you play will indicate the best schedule for restringing. The general rule of thumb is to restring your tennis racket as many times a year as you play in one week. For example, if you play once a week, you would typically restring once a year to maintain tension. However, it is worth noting that if you are an advanced player, you may restring more often. If you string your racket at a higher tension, it will need restringing more frequently than a lower-strung racket.
The best racket depends on your skill level. If you need more power and forgiveness, go for a larger head size and lighter weight. For better control and precision, choose a smaller head size and a heavier frame. Head-heavy rackets suit baseline players, while head-light rackets are better for fast reactions at the net. If you’re unsure, a mid-range racket with a balanced weight and head size is a great all-round option.
