Whether you’re a competitive badminton player or play the sport socially, at Stringers’ World, we stock a wide range of shuttlecocks to cater to any player’s needs. From feather shuttlecocks to synthetic, from trusted badminton brands, such as Yonex and Babolat, you’re sure to find the right shuttlecock for your needs.Â
Made using real duck or goose feathers, and best suited for advanced or experienced players. Feathered shuttlecocks are more fragile, but are the best performing in terms of speed, flight, and control.Â
Designed using plastic for the skirt and a rubber base, plastic shuttlecocks are better suited towards beginners and social players. This is because plastic shuttlecocks are more durable, slower, and lighter, which makes them easier to use for those learning the sport.
Hybrid shuttlecocks are designed to offer the best of both feathered and nylon. These types of shuttlecocks have feathered skirts with rubber bases, which means that you get better performance with more longevity.Â
Neither is better than the other, with both serving different purposes. Feathered shuttlecocks are more accurate and help players aim to make specific shots, such as drop shots and slices, easier. Feathered shuttlecocks, however, are less durable, requiring more precision when being used to avoid the feathers from breaking.Â
Plastic, or nylon shuttlecocks are designed for beginner players and those who play casually. They are more durable than feathered, but don’t offer the same level of performance. Plastic shuttlecocks are also slower, with less consistent flight.Â
In short, if you’re a beginner player, you may find plastic shuttlecocks easier to use as you learn. If you’re an intermediate or advanced player, you’ll find that feathered shuttlecocks offer more control, which can make the game more competitive.
The lifespan of a shuttlecock can vary greatly and depends on the type that you use. Feathered and hybrid shuttlecocks won’t last as long as plastic shuttlecocks. Equally, the length of time before you need to replace your shuttlecocks depends on how often you play and the intensity of the game. If you find that your shuttlecocks are not performing as well as they once did, or you begin to see signs of wear, you will typically need to replace your shuttlecocks.
Hybrid shuttlecocks combine both the feathered and synthetic elements. On a hybrid shuttlecock, you will find the skirt is made up of goose or duck feathers, the frame is created with nylon or plastic material, and the head is made with cork. This combination offers better durability, along with consistent flight, you’d find from feathered shuttlecocks.
