Stringers’ World is the UK’s leading badminton racket stockist, offering a wide range of badminton rackets for every level, from beginner to professional. Whether you’re a beginner looking for your first quality badminton racket or an advanced player seeking a racket designed for power and performance, Stringers’ World has the perfect selection for you.
Badminton rackets come in various specifications, including weight, balance, and flexibility, which all affect performance. The weight of a racket is often indicated with a “U” number, which helps you determine how heavy or light the racket is. Other factors, like grip size and balance, can also influence your game, so it’s important to choose a racket that suits your playing style.
The “U” preceding a number indicates weight. For instance, a “3U” badminton racket is the heaviest, while a “5U” racket is the lightest. Each “U” indicates a 5 gram band, with 3U being between 85g and 89.9 grams, and 4U being between 80g and 84.9g, and so forth. Usually, you’ll find most badminton rackets sit in the middle with a “4U”, which provides most players with a balanced racket. This makes it ideal for providing players with power in their swings with optimal control.
Each badminton racket is designed with varying levels of flexibility to suit a player’s preference. There are five levels, from extra flexible to extra stiff. For beginners still building their technique, a racket with flexibility ranging from ‘extra flexible’ to ‘medium’ is ideal, as these provide more forgiveness and require less power in the swing. Intermediate and advanced players, however, tend to prefer ‘medium’ to ‘extra stiff’ rackets, as these offer greater control and less power.
The head weight of a badminton racket affects performance by influencing power and manoeuvrability. Head-heavy rackets provide more power and stability, making them ideal for offensive and singles players who prioritise smashes and clears. Head-light rackets, being lighter in the head, offer better manoeuvrability and speed, making them perfect for net and defensive players who value quick reactions and control.
Beginners usually opt to purchase a pre-strung badminton racket as this will be set up and ready for you to hit the court. An unstrung racket would likely be chosen by intermediate and advanced players looking for added customisation.
