We highly recommend using padel shoes for playing padel. Padel footwear is designed to provide you with support so you can play the sport more effectively and safely. Because the whole of the court is in play, you will constantly be sprinting, making sharp turns, and performing sudden lateral movements. Without supportive padel footwear, you significantly increase the risk of rolling an ankle or sustaining a foot injury, which could sideline you for weeks.
If you find your padel shoes are not offering the same level of grip as they once did or feel less stable during quick changes of direction, replacing your padel footwear should be a priority. While durability depends on how often you play, a player hitting the court once or twice a week can usually expect a pair to last six to twelve months. A key sign that it’s time for an upgrade is when the tread pattern on the sole becomes smooth, as this will lead to dangerous slipping on the court.
Your padel footwear should feel snug and supportive around the midfoot and heel to prevent your foot from sliding inside the shoe during sudden stops. However, you should still have about a half-centimetre width of space at your toes. If your toes are pressing against the front, you risk bruising when making hard stops.
